AI4H Research Team at the Language Resources and Evaluation Conference (LREC) 2026

The AI4H research team participated in the 15th edition of the Language Resources and Evaluation Conference (LREC) 2026, held from 11 to 16 May 2026 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Organised biennially by the European Language Resources Association (ELRA), LREC is recognised as one of the leading international events in the field of Human Language Technologies (HLT). It brings together researchers and practitioners from natural language processing, computational linguistics, speech technologies, and multimodal AI.

This year’s conference highlighted the importance of language resources, evaluation methodologies, and interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing the field. The programme included oral presentations, poster sessions, and workshops.

The AI4H team contributed to the conference in several key roles and presentations:

  • Simon Krek served as one of the Programme Chairs of LREC 2026.
  • Marko Robnik-Šikonja and Antoine Doucet acted as Senior Area Chairs in Natural Language Generation and Summarisation.
  • Antoine Doucet co-authored a paper on reference-free evaluation methods for named entity recognition and linking in OCR-processed historical texts.
  • Kaja Dobrovoljc co-organised the Universal Dependencies Workshop and presented research on linguistic diversity in NLP, as well as new Slovenian language benchmarks.
  • Domen Vreš presented a paper on Slovenian vision-language models.
  • Matej Klemen presented research on agent-based approaches to grammatical question answering.
  • Slavko Žitnik presented work on fine-tuning language models for lexicographic question answering tasks.
