Roundtable Discussion on the Ethical Challenges in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

On 15 October 2026, Prof Dr Marko Robnik-Šikonja participated in a roundtable discussion on research ethics in the age of artificial intelligence, organised by the Science and Research Centre Koper.

The discussion explored the ethical, methodological and institutional challenges arising from the increasing use of AI in scientific research. Participants highlighted the importance of responsibility, transparency and research integrity in navigating these challenges.

During the discussion, Dr Robnik-Šikonja emphasised that the growing availability of AI tools calls for researchers to formulate more ambitious and high-quality research questions. He stressed that researchers must remain accountable for their work and clearly disclose how and for which tasks they have used AI tools.

He also raised concerns about the hyperproduction of scientific publications facilitated by AI, drawing attention to the need to prioritise the quality and relevance of research over the quantity of scientific outputs.
