Educational Visit from IIS Blaise Pascal Reggio Emilia

On 16 April, we hosted the second group of Italian high school students from IIS Blaise Pascal Reggio Emilia. The visit provided students with an opportunity to learn how artificial intelligence is used in research and to explore both its possibilities and the responsibilities it entails.

The students attended three presentations given by Tjaša Arčon, Amélie Quilichini, and Rebeka Kropivšek Leskovar, each focusing on a different application of AI.

Tjaša Arčon presented her research on exploring Cinderella motifs worldwide using artificial intelligence. She demonstrated how large language models can be used not only for conversation but also as research tools for analysing texts and identifying hidden patterns.

Amélie Quilichini presented her PhD research in linguistics. Her presentation explained how computers can evaluate linguistic change across time and place, using the example of the two Norwegian languages.

Rebeka Kropivšek Leskovar spoke about ethics in responsible AI, focusing on key issues such as bias, transparency, and privacy. Together with the students, she discussed why ethics matter in artificial intelligence and how AI systems always learn patterns, including potentially unfair ones.
