Presentation of Research Findings and Upcoming AI4DH Workshops in 2026

On 10 December, two members of our team presented our research findings and announced the dates of our 2026 workshops at a public event at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana.

Tjaša Arčon presented her research on the use of large language models (LLMs) to examine motifs in Cinderella. How can AI be used to study folktales and fairy tales? Our team developed a methodology for large-scale, cross-lingual analysis of folktale motifs, combining machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) to automatically detect recurring motifs. Using dozens of Cinderella variants from around the world, the research demonstrates that large language models can identify complex interactions within stories, enabling computational analysis of extensive text collections and facilitating meaningful comparisons across languages and cultures.

Dr Ajda Pretnar Žagar introduced the upcoming 2026 workshop programme. At the Centre of Excellence in AI for Digital Humanities, our aim is to bridge the gap between AI, language technologies, and digital humanities by strengthening digital skills and AI literacy in the field. We announced four new workshops:

  • Large Language Models for Analyses in Digital Humanities
  • Python Troubleshooting Club
  • Adapting and Fine-tuning LLMs: A Hands-on Approach for DH
  • Information Retrieval from the Internet

The exact dates will be announced soon.

The event was broadcast by the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) and is available on YouTube in Slovene.

The event was also covered by the STA, and the article in Slovene is available at this link.
